Race fans will never forget the incredibly vicious crash that occurred during the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series "Daytona 250" race in February of 2000.  The Billy Ballew owned #15 Ford truck, driven by Geoff Bodine was struck by another car near the 4th turn.  The car then went airborne and flew over the concrete wall, striking steel poles and fencing.  The truck was torn to pieces as it flipped many times down the speedway, while engulfed in flames.  Again hit by another car, the engine was ripped-out and flew at 100mph into the infield.  The ball of twisted metal finally came to rest, fully engulfed in flames as the emergency personnel arrived to rescue Geoff who was still strapped inside.  After a lengthy delay, a stretcher holding Geoff was wheeled to the ambulance.  Suddenly, Geoff's left hand moved and adjusted his oxygen mask!  A miracle had taken place at Daytona that day, with Geoff surviving a 190m.p.h inferno to race again. Two short years later, Geoff returned to Daytona to race and nearly won the "Daytona 500", finishing third.   Now on display at Memory Lane Museum, you can see firsthand the never before publically displayed car from this horrific crash.  This car is worth seeing, and gives a glimpse into the safety precautions behind Nascar’s vehicles.  The helmet, shoes, and uniform worn by Geoff that day are also displayed, as are the crutches and back brace used during Geoff rehabilitation  As a grand finale, the incredible “flying engine" is also included in the exhibit.

Geoff Bodine, is the 1986 "Daytona 500" winner and the driving force behind the Bo-Dyn Bobsleds (designed by Bob Cuneo).  These bobsleds have catapulted the United States 2 and 4 Man Bobsled Teams to international fame and success.  Mr. Bodine has graciously allowed Memory Lane Motorsports and Historical Automotive Museum in Mooresville, North Carolina to display this incredible segment of racing history.
